I joined the Yelp waitlist, which showed an estimated wait time of one hour, but I was seated within five minutes. The food was served dish by dish, and you order directly from your table using a QR code. However, only one person per group can place orders with the QR code. Service was quite slow and it was hard to flag down a waiter. There's free parking available in the back, and they accept Apple Pay.

Quick Summary It's one of the most successful Dimsum chains for a reason. Top tier food quality. Up to date ordering system. Parking isn't too bad with the covered lot in the back. Only complaint is they seem a little understaffed for the prices you pay (compared to your average dim sum spot) Food- 5 stars The quality here is nearly unmatched in the SGV area. Order whatever you like and the quality is pretty high end for dim sum Service- 4 stars The phone ordering system is nice to minimize confusion and streamline ordering. However, it does take a while to fetch a waiter for water or sauces Ambiance- 4 stars Nice and modern decor for a dim sum spot. It is pretty crowded though, with tables bunched pretty close together, even at the booths Bottom Line Excellent dim sum quality. However, you are paying a higher price for your standard dim sum restaurant service.

As a longtime dim sum enthusiast, especially as a siu mai lover, finding the perfect dim sum spot in Los Angeles was a top priority for me. After two years of prospecting, I can confidently say Lunasia Dim Sum is my favorite. Their siu mai stands out with its generous portion size, combining shrimp, pork, and mushroom in a way that's both filling and flavorful--definitely worth the price. I also highly recommend their lo mai gai (sticky rice wrap). Unlike many places that offer just two wraps, Lunasia serves three substantial ones, with a perfect flavors that adds a delightful touch. Their deep-fried shrimp dumplings are another must-try. The shrimp filling is both large and flavorful, and the crispy exterior pairs perfectly with a dip in mayo. If you're new to dim sum, make sure to try: Har Gow Rice noodles rolls with shrimp Chicken feet Bean curd roll Baked BBQ pork bun Spare ribs with black bean sauce Pan-fried string beans (its crispy!!) Parking is also a breeze with free parking available, adding to the convenience. To avoid long waits, consider reserving a table on Yelp or ordering online for takeout. The restaurant is clean, and the staff are friendly, making for an enjoyable dining experience.

Having tried three different dim sum restaurants (Lunaasia, Bistro 1968, China Republic) multiple times, Lunaasia really stands out. To me, consistency is the key, for the other two places, the problem is, the same dish that tasted great, tasted different in a bad way when we visited again. For instance, on our first visit, the radish cake at Bistro 1968 was full of flavor (there's tiny bits of Chinese ham and either dried shrimp or scallop) with just the right amount of shredded radish so it's creamy not mushy and it's crispy on the outside. Sadly we tried it again on our next two visits, it was so mushy that you can't even pick it up with chopsticks and there's no flavor, tasted just like rice flour mixed with too much water then pan fried with oil that's been reused. China republic has the same issue, their sesame balls were so good when we tried the first time, with very thin skin and lots of bean paste filling, in our subsequent visits, the skin got so much thicker and there's far less filling, plus it's drenched in oil. One Interesting thing we noticed when we last visited Bistro 1968 is that it looks like the manager of China Republic was working there So far we have not experienced any problems with Lunaasia for our four visits, twice on weekdays and twice on weekends. Everything we tried again tasted as great as it was on our first visit. Love their beef balls with hints of tangerine zest and watercress, Hargow with large pieces of shrimp not a lot of pork fat and not over or under steamed so the wrapper has the perfect texture! And they have the best beef tripe! Cooked to the right texture not tough and not too soft in a flavorful broth, yum! Lunaasia is our favorite dim sum place for now (used to be 888 before the pandemic).
